The purpose of the Japan Day Parade 2020 is to promote Japan and its culture to New Yorkers, preceding the Tokyo 2020 Games, and deepen the Japan-America relations by celebrating the 160th Anniversary of the first official visit of Japan’s delegation in the US. This first visit took place in 1860, and included a Parade of Samurai in the streets of Manhattan.
The Japan Day Parade will be an expansion of the festival, bringing an even wider and diverse Japanese-American audience together.
ニューヨークのセントラルパークで毎年開催される「Japan Day @ セントラルパーク」（通称 Japan Day）に加え、今回初めてパレードを実施します。今年は東京オリンピック・パラリンピック大会の開催年である他、1860年に江戸幕府の万延元年遣米使節団が米国を訪問して160年を迎えます。また東京都とニューヨーク市が姉妹都市提携を結んで60年目という節目の年でもあります。14回目を迎える2020年のJapan Dayでは、初の実施となる日本パレードを通じてニューヨークで日本文化の魅力を発信し、日米関係を更に強化していきます。
